Computer Lab


One of the two computer labs at our campus. Students seen here are doing the online computer reservations systems (Galileo) course. Students use the computer lab after college from 4pm to 6 pm to work on their assessments and/or attend the study groups that are held to help students with their work.

    Hi Mamita!
    In almost every school in Sweden the students are given a lap top that they can use during their three years. When they graduate they are offered to by the lap top to a very low price if the want. Do you have the same system i Australia?

    Hi Ann. Over here students are given laptops in high school. At our college, most students already own a laptop. Those students who do not own or bring their laptops to college, use the college computers. At our college, they will be providing laptops for the students to use in class when they do not have access to the computer lab.

      Ok, do you have issues with students using Facebook and other social media during class?

      Hi Ann, Yes that is a big issue. There has been a block put on the laptops for the students; however some students are constantly on their phones, Facebook, taking photos, snapchatting etc.

    Hi Mamita,

    Where I’m working as a teacher, we do have laptops that students can borrow but I would like to have access to a computer lab. Is the computer lab supervised? Are the students carefully with the computers? Most students in our school like to visit Face book so we have had a lot of discussions about ethical use. As a teacher I like this instant access but I also experience it as a challenge because we need teaching students ethical use and protocols relating to on-line and social media.
    Do you recognize this challenge with ethical use concerning social media as a teacher? How do you handle matters like this?

      Hi Bella, yes it is a big issue in our college as well. There is a block on Facebook on the laptops. The students use their phones for social media and that is a major issue as it is a distraction. About ethical use and protocol - that is an important issue that students need to be aware of. In the Diploma of Tourism Course, there is a called Operate an Online Operating system and we do cover these topics in this this unit.But how much do the students follow it is another topic!
