Photo 5 - Non-traditional business delivery
WCI's Business department is providing flexible delivery for students who prefer a non-traditional form of learning. Business traineeships are offered to those already employed. Students participate in on-th-job training, and employers are offered government financial incentives. Business lecturers assess work completed as part of students' daily activities, and add only 'gap' assessments as required. This is also convenient for rural businesses, with lecturers visiting at least 5 times a semester to check their progress. Trainees and their employers are also supported by emails and on-line tutorial sessions if required.

Hi Beverley!
ReplyDeleteI wonder how common it is with students who choose this form of learning? What are the disadvantages/ advantages of this form of education?
Best regards,
Gunbritt
You have to have an employer who agrees to this type of training. I only have 4 trainees at the moment. The advantages are that the trainee collects evidence of their actual work they don on their daily job, but the downside is that they acquire skills for only one work environment, so contextualisation does not occur.

Hi Beverley,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your reply, I wonder if it is hard to find employers who accept students who require this type of training? How common is that students get a job in the company they were in during their schooling? How do you plan to teachers the information students do on their practice, and there is some type of supervisor at work that you have contact with in the meantime?
Many questions but very true inner knowing!
Best Regards,
Gunbritt
It can be difficult. Firstly the student must find a job with an empoyer who will invest in their training at the employer's expense. Not all secondary students do work placement, so many leave hgh school with not industry experience at all. The work undertaken by the trainees in the workplace must be supervised by someone who has the qualifications to do this, so this is another obstacle to getting a traineeship.
