Students presenting their diploma projects

The picture shows our 3rd year students presenting their diploma projects to the other students and teachers in our auditorium. These two students went trekking with backpacks between small villages in Italy in the Cinque Terre area, a lovely spot in Italy, which attracts many tourists from all over the world.

  1. Hi Ann, Do they do the Diploma in Tourism? How many years is that for? How many units and how many hours? At the RTO, I teach at - the Diploma of Tourism is a 10 month course; 33 units and 933 hours. They also do one day a week work placement for ten weeks. Love the idea of the students traveling overseas. How is the costs for these covered? Regards, Mamita

    1. Hi Mamita!
The tourism students study for three years and they get a vocational diploma after they've completed all courses. They do at least 15 weeks of workplace-based learning during these three years and some of the students go overseas for that.

The educational system in Sweden has been reformed 2011 and the students that you've seen on the photo above are the last ones graduating in the "old program". The diploma projects has also changed and now the students need to demonstrate that they have the knowledge to work in the area that the've chosen. The costs are partly paid by the school and partly by the students. Check out the following website in english to read more about our hotel & tourism program

      Kind regards,
      Ann

  2. Hey Ann!
Can you tell us more about how it works when students do their thesis work? Is it common for them to go abroad and there are many who make them in Sweden? Can you choose to work in groups or individually?

    Best regards,
    Gunbritt

  3. Hi Gunbritt!
Yes may of them worked in pairs and some of them went abroad, however these were the 3rd year students who still are at the "old program". Therefore the following students "diploma project" will not be formed like this. According to GY11 the diploma project will demonstrate that the student have the knowledge needed to start working in the area that they've chosen.
    Best Regards,
    Ann
